Test Cone 10 glaze firing is cooling down!!!! Have at least another 3 hours before I can even open the flue to cool enough to unload. I hate the waiting. Will the glazes run, works melt, are the engobes too intense even with the dry glaze over. Tomorrow will tell. Below is a new work in progress. #LaMeridiana #artresidency #contemporaryceramics #ceramics #michellematthews #sculpture
Been walking the last two days on the dirt road through the vineyards. Love the way the vines are lined up in perfect rows as far as the eye can see. Even though the day was gorgeous, made myself glaze. Carried the buckets to my little patio to glaze. So worth the effort to sit with the cool breezes and nature. The glazing will be a mess. Note to self, chemicals are not the same from country to country. Really have no idea how the combinations will react. Yes there are test t
Caroline knocking it out of the park!!!
Caroline, my daughter has only been throwing a year, she produced all on the top shelf and at 9:45 pm is still on her wheel. Meanwhile I made over 90 test tiles. We will see tomorrow. #LaMeridiana #artresidency #ceramics #sculpture
La Meridiana day 2
Loving it. Realized I have never been forced to focus on the task at hand, like many of us seem to fiind reasons to drift to other tasks and thoughts. Applying to greenware, testing layering, glaze removal with sponge, rib and steel wool on greenware and the Texas made bisqued tiles I carted on the p
Woke up in Italy!!
Today began my residency at @lameridiana in Certlado. Arrived last night in time for dinner. My studio with a joining apartment is beautiful. Will spend many evenings on the front porch enjoying the end of day. But on this first day discussed the scope of my residency with Pietro. He suggested incorporating vitreous slips or engobes into my work which can be added to my wood fire pieces. Made several test pieces today, tomorrow begin to test the slips. #artresidency #contempo
